Why cotton prices are rising worldwide - and promodoro quality still remains at the very top.
Poor harvests in key producing countries, the dramatic floods in Pakistan and a cotton export ban in India: These are the main reasons for a rise in cotton price as we have never seen before. Currently, the cost per ton is approximately 100% higher than the level of the previous year. It is currently at a 30 year high. The amount of cotton required for a T-shirt now costs no less than a euro.
The effects of this development will of course be delayed for the consumer. Many manufacturers are changing, in part, to other materials and are processing cheaper fabrics such as rayon and polyester, or are issuing lighter grammages. Nevertheless, the consumer will soon also start to feel the drastic price movements.
We at promodoro have a clear stance. We will continue to provide first-class quality to our customers. And this hinges on first-class cotton. We do our best to offset price fluctuations with a balanced and long-term purchasing policy, thereby keeping our prices stable. Of course, we may not always be able to do so, especially if prices rise
worldwide as they are currently doing. But those who seek true quality will be able to understand this aspect.
